Several years ago an acquaintance was shopping for (out of province) travel insurance. They found a plan with good worldwide coverage that was noticeably less expensive than what they had. They bought it.
After several years of driving from Canada to Mexico and back each year someone suggested that what they bought was too good to be true. They looked at the fine print.
It was “worldwide”, except for the US.
My mother-in-law spent four days in the hospital in Las Vegas and had a pacemaker inserted. The bill was over US$100,000. Fortunately they had out of province insurance.
A neighbour couple was at their usual winter place in Arizona two years ago. The woman ended up in the hospital. After six days and a million dollars she died.
I’ll fly from Canada to Mexico thanks. If I’m going to die, I don’t want to do it broke.
