Maybe some of you were up early enough to see the latest kill fishing tournament get underway at 7 this morning. While I'm sure it brings in extra business for some charter captains, I just can't bring myself to promote a senseless fish slaughter. Yes, part of the tournament is catch and release, but there were still a lot of dead fish that should've been released instead. Yes, I know the humans were having a good time, but we have to value life more than we're doing as a species. No, I'm not a vegan, I just don't like to see life wasted for amusement or animals killed in a sport they never knew they were playing.

Town sure filled up this Friday. Besides all the folks from north of the border who are here, families from the inland cities showed up today. Some were at the beach and swimming even before the sun broke over the hillside of our bay. Tossing out their towels, putting up their umbrellas, and getting ready to enjoy a day at the beach, picnic and all. Those who brought their pets acted responsibly with them, from what I could see. The beach looked clean this evening when we strolled along the waterfront for the first time in a month or so.

Stands are being put up around the Cancha Municipal and in front of Daniel's Restaurant for a weekend of the gastronomical fair showcasing cuisine from different regions of Guerrero. The food goes on sale at 1PM Saturday and Sunday, and there's going to be a mezcal tasting session at the Museo Arqueológico de la Costa Grande. See the times, events and details on my Community Notices & Events page. Looks to be a right proper wing-ding.

The Secretaria de la Marina issued an alert for "elevado oleaje" (a high waves event) with waves from 6 to 8 feet and riptides starting later today and subsiding by the 9th. Nevertheless, the bay is literally as calm as glass at the moment with hardly any noticeable waves along the water's edge.

Don't forget to visit "Las Iguanas Bazar" in La Ropa next to Casa Tucanes this Saturday and Sunday from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. where you'll find a fun time, the wonderful works of local artisans and merchants, and lots of sustainable products.

Also, the Eco-Tianguis "Sanka" happens every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 1:40 p.m. in the small plaza in front of the Vicente Guerrero school, across the street from the Museo Arqueológico de la Costa Grande in downtown Zihuatanejo by the waterfront where La Boquita canal runs into the bay. Besides wonderful handcrafts, they feature a variety of homegrown produce, fresh foods including pastries, breads and tamales, fresh coffee, juices and mezcal.
