This Tuesday we awoke to another frigid morning of temperatures around 17 or 18°C. Had to turn the fan off, snuggle under a sheet and sleep in late until the sun rose to stay warm. ¡Brrrrr! And yesterday on the national news, the pretty weathergirl said we were having a heat wave in Guerrero. The heat must be waving from somewhere else, 'cause it ain't here.

The waves from the mar de fondo event have been huge today at Playa Principal. I watched a couple trying to swim, but they were having a hard time of it, diving under the waves over and over that seemed to keep getting larger. Surf's up!

Thank goodness for the nice breeze this morning that blew the smoke away from the fire atop one of the hills to the east of downtown Zihuatanejo. The bomberos had managed to put it out after a long day of firefighting. Surely it will soon become another land invasion tolerated by the same government officials entrusted with protecting our lands, and the politicians will induce their vote with promises of land titles and services, including building materials and paved roads. If history repeats itself, well-meaning foreigners will even help by building a small school, fulfilling one of the legal conditions for allowing the zoning of the land to change and the land thieves to remain and get titles to the land they steal. A process that has repeated itself for decades here. I hope I'm wrong, but I've seen this movie too many times.

If you haven't been paying attention you might've missed the alignment of Venus, Saturn and Neptune visible during the twilight after sunset. It was at it's peak Sunday evening, but they're still close enough that it looks pretty cool. They'll be there again tomorrow, albeit spaced a little further apart.

A whale and her calf were again spotted in Zihuatanejo early in the day. Whale watching season runs from December 15 until March 20, though I doubt the whales are strict calendar watchers. So there's still plenty of time to go out on the water with an experienced certified guide.
