Terminan Las CelebraZIHones de Carnaval
Saturday night's music from the bands playa at Las Salinas seemed louder than the previous night. Photos show it was jam packed. And as a treat, someone set a large fire of garbage in a room of the abandoned building at Las Salinas next to the Carnaval venue. All part of the attraction of our ¡Pueblo Mágico!
Sunday morning was refreshing, but not the shivering cold of previous days. Groups of visitors continued arriving on buses and hauling bags, suitcases, coolers, children, and elderly relatives towards the old downtown section from Plaza Kioto. A shame there's no affordable shuttle service for them.
Downtown Zihuatanejo was full today. The piers were operating. The water taxi operators had to repair the broken boards at Playa Linda's pier in order to be able to use it since the government apparently wasn't going to.
The Desfile de Carnaval 2026 is about to get underway. Floats have already passed by on their way to the staging area at Plaza Kioto, so we've already seen some of them. People are picking viewing spots. Café Caracol is full.
The festivities at Las Salinas will finish tonight with the extremely talented Mexican singer Alicia Villareal. She'll take the stage at 11PM. Hers will be the last of 3 shows tonight. Should be a lot of fun. So far so good.
"Carnaval is very sweet. Please don't stop the Carnaval!"
This is a long vacation weekend since this Monday is the official observance of Benito Juárez' birthday, so there will be no school classes as well as no public offices or banks open. Schools were also closed last Friday.
If you enjoy spectacular views and balmy breezes, you'll LOVE La Casa Roja on Cerro El Almacén with two comfortable suites. The upstairs has 2 bedrooms with a king-size and twin beds, full kitchen, private bath, and 2 terraces. The lower level also has 2 bedrooms with a king-size and twin beds, full kitchen, 2 baths, and a terrace. A peaceful place within easy walking distance of downtown and nearby restaurants.
