Does anyone have more info about the colectivo robbery?
I think this is really serious. Are the bus sindicatos doing anything to increase security? Was this on a combi? Did they rob the driver? I could not find anything in the local news sites. Any know anything besides what's been posted here?

Not near as serious as the daily shootouts that are also mostly unreported. But hey, how 'bout that Carnaval parade!
Our local politicians are simply following the Acapulco model. Look at Acapulco now and you're essentially seeing how Zihuatanejo will be in a few more years unless we see a radical change in our local and state governments.
Expect no further info, no action, no complaints filed. The criminals are likely from the Mexico City area where this is more common. They might've even been on vacation or just passing through.
We have no reliable local police force, and apparently there's no intention by the municipal government to professionalize them or use them in any different capacity than they're currently being used, mostly to protect local politicians and essentially serve as adornments. If the passengers and the driver didn't report it to the Ministerio Público, and it is doubtful that any did, then there isn't even a paper trail to point to in order to indicate that a crime happened. It's an old story here. One more reason it never ceases to surprise me that so many people from the States move here and then act surprised when things like this happen.

What about car jackings in the good old perfectly safe USA or Canada? I am way more concerned as to how some of those guys drive the combi, they are incentivized to get their routes done by a scheduled time. Sometimes I walk from Ixtapa to Zihuatanejo and take a combi back, sometimes I regret taking the combi.

That’s good enough for me.
Why are we being told this?

I do not minimize the experience of being robbed. It could be terrifying, although I remember an American ex-Pat telling me, “I would rather be robbed here than in the US. Here they rob you and leave. Back home they rob you then kill you.. My housekeeper talked with me about robbery on a combi she was on. She told it as a story that was an irritant, but not as a traumatic event.I looked at the local media for a report about the robbery reported here anonymously and like you I found nothing. Hmm.
I note that the user who posted about the alleged incident registered here on the morning of March 16 posted the report minutes later, and hasn’t logged in again since March 16. Hmm.
I also wonder about an armed robbery in the middle of the morning, on public transportation, on a four to six lane tourism highway, in a populated area that is frequented by armed guardia, marina, police of various kinds, taxis, and frequent combis. I’m not saying it is impossible, but if I were a bad guy, I think I would be targeting a vehicle with more people in it, in a less populated/less populated and less patrolled area, like a micro on the La Union route where there is no practical ability for a driver to go into a different lane.
If the event did take place, I would put it in the context of what was reported in La Voz.
Two people seriously injured in a shooting
In the context of these, a loss of money without anyone allegedly being injured, let alone dying, while no doubt distressing, seems to me to be of lesser seriousness.
Rob recently purged the board of some users who seemed to have penchant for posting allegations of bad aspects of the area without substantiation. At times like this I remember a question that was used about media during the PRI hegemony, “Why am I being told this? And why now?
I know the person who posted the original message about the robbery. I can vouch for them. I have no reason to doubt the incident happened. And I believe people here, including our visitors, should be aware of these things. It's no small thing to lose your wallet, money, cellphone, ID, and other personal belongings. It's sad that in parts of the country, mostly around Mexico City, this is commonplace, and people buy cheap cellphones to go to work with just for this purpose.

Our housekeeper heard from one of her friends that a couple of men were caught several days later at the same spot attempting to rob another colectivo. She was told that a police officer happened to be riding in the colectivo while it was being robbed. It is unclear whether he was off duty or in uniform. According to what she heard, the two men who boarded the vehicle, along with the getaway car, were apprehended.
This is all word of mouth, so I would really like to know if anyone has seen this confirmed by the police or in any local news
