The overnight coolness was gone by sunrise this Friday morning. We took a little detour on our morning sojourn to check out the action at the pier where around 300 participants had just set out for the first day of the Torneo de Pez Vela. Unfortunately, there was no list of the participants visible that we could see.

Parents all over Mexico are furious that the Secretario de Educación Pública (SEP) declared an early end to the school year, ending on June 5 instead of July 15, because of the World Cup and the heat. The school term has never been cancelled anywhere close to this early. Guerrero's state offices of education already announced the changes even though they haven't been formalized nationally. Lots of people are not happy about this since our schoolchildren are already behind due to teachers' strikes, and they still haven't really recovered from the pandemia. I expect we'll hear more about this in our national news. Presidenta Sheinbaum isn't happy about it either, and she said it was only a proposal this morning, but Guerrero being Guerrero, we of course have to shoot ourselves in the foot, and our state government made an official announcement about it today.

The best thing about the fishing tournament is the party atmosphere and of course the free fish for local families who were lined up at the beach to receive their cuts of pez vela this evening. The music was good and people were dancing as we strolled by, dancing ourselves. People were having a wonderful time. I highly recommend joining in on the fun while it lasts.

It looks like we might get some rain this Monday and Tuesday.

It also looks like we're going to have a mar de fondo event from Saturday night until Wednesday morning with swells from 5 to 7 feet (around 1.5 to a little over 2 meters). Surfers rejoice!
