The heat isn't letting up, and today was another hot day with temperatures in the mid-30's Celsius and humidity above 80%. From first light the heat was relentless, making morning chores more taxing than normal. But those of us who work for a living have no choice but to deal with it and be thankful for what we have, especially for the privilege to live here.

I could hear the jackhammers around midday at the pier for the mayor's totally unnecessary and unpopular vanity project that appears to serve personal desires more than the public’s. A damn shame she refused to listen to the people she's supposed to represent. The entrance to the pier is a total disaster now with only a small walking lane along one side. It's sad to have to watch yet another expensive unwanted public project that only serves to pour the cement of her husband's company. Especially in light of all the projects that Zihuatanejo actually needs such as repairing the city's drainage and the canals, dredging the lagoon, building a hospital. The list is just about endless of things we actually need, and this project is nowhere on that list. The same family just keeps raping Zihuatanejo over and over for their unnecessary cement projects paid for by our taxes, ignoring all public pleas and arguments, destroying what little character of old Zihuatanejo that remains. Totally shameful.

Hardly a visitor could be found anywhere in Zihuatanejo today. Extremely few, and even less with money to spend. It's sad to see all the businesses hustling to open in the mornings and afternoons only to sit empty all day with no customers. Especially all the restaurants with their waiters anxiously searching the beach and the streets for customers that aren't coming. Many won't survive the slow season. Locals do our best to try to do business with our neighbors' businesses, but it's impossible to keep up with all the new businesses that open each year. Many that look like nice places, but geared towards people who simply aren't here and aren't coming. This happens every slow season every year.

There've been large schools of fish in the bay recently. Locals who fish to eat have been enjoying good luck recently. The fishermen's market was mostly empty today, though, since hardly anyone sets out to fish on Sunday evenings. As we say locally, ni las gallinas ponen los lunes.
