The big storm we all were watching on radar Saturday night never caused more than a sprinkle over downtown Zihuatanejo. It made for perfect sleeping weather and kept the temperature down. It remained cloudy and sprinkled off and on for most of the day, and it's expected to actually rain for most of Monday. Public schools have cancelled classes along the Costa Grande, the Costa Chica and most of the state in expectation of torrential rains.

Tropical Depression Two-E is expected to become Tropical Storm Boris before hitting the Costa Chica of Guerrero near San Marcos just southeast of Acapulco. Then it's expected to drift our way and bring us some windy conditions and more rains, some that could be intense.

Smaller water craft were prohibited from operating this Sunday in Zihuatanejo's Bay and along the coast. Only boats larger than 15 meters in length. This was bad news for most captains but good news for some with larger boats who arranged trips to Las Gatas. Conditions are expected to worsen Monday as 4-meter waves are expected along our coast. In spite of the dirty water and high waves, there were still tourists swimming at Playa Principal this evening when we strolled to the pier and back.

Amazingly, for the past several days there have been almost no diners at La Porteña when we've strolled past in the evenings, the restaurant that's usually the busiest of all the waterfront restaurants. A scene we're not used to seeing, and it speaks rather poorly of the local economy.

Comfortable rooms with privileged views, delicious food at their restaurant, extremely warm and friendly staff, and the truest ambiance of old Zihuatanejo. (click to enlarge image)
