Ventarrón y PrecipitaZIHón
Roaring thunderstorms danced all around Zihuatanejo Bay during the night, but we didn't receive a drop of rain downtown. The temperature dropped noticeably, and at sunrise this Monday it felt refreshing, almost cool. Certainly much cooler than other mornings this past week. Then, early in the afternoon while I was working all of a sudden I heard doors vibrating and windows rattling, and I thought we might be about to have a quake. But it turned out to be the wind. Like a freight train out of nowhere, a strong relentless wind from the southeast blew the fronds on the palm trees straight back, roared through Plaza del Artista and the downtown streets sandlasting everything and sending people shouting and running for cover. The lights went off briefly. Something bumped on the rooftop. Then the rain came in hard, stinging the skin and causing more people to flee the open air for shelter. After about an hour the worst of the wind was over, then it kept raining gently for another couple of hours, and it has continued so off and on since then. Perfect tropical weather!
After the Mad Pedo meddled with FIFA, and since Mexico lost after they played their hearts out and dominated most of the game, losing more due to a bad referee than a better English team, the general feeling seems to be that the USA-Belgium match taints the entire World Cup from here on out. Mexico can handle bad officiating. It's cost them games before, but never has the president of a nation meddled so brazenly in an ongoing World Cup. So maybe some of us will watch the Final, but many of the fans won't be watching any more matches this year. The Mad Pedo ruins everything he touches.
Higher taxi and combi/Urvan rates are officially being applied now. I've had them posted for a while, but taxis said they were holding out applying them, though many users say they've actually been paying them for a while. Just so ya know.
