For a few brief hours around dawn this Friday the temperature was comfortable. But the sunshine quickly turned the day into an inferno with temperatures around 37°C and a heat index well over 40°C again, as it has been for several days now. I can imagine that folks arriving here for vacation visibly grimace at the first blast of heat they feel when disembarking from a plane or an air-conditioned bus. Remember to stay hydrated. Alcohol only makes it worse and puts you more in danger of having a heat stroke.

The downtown beach had quite a few visitors, but the ocean brings little relief since the water temperature remains over 31°C. Nevertheless, visitors were still in the water at sunset this evening, oblivious to the fact that from dusk to dawn is feeding time for ocean-dwelling critters with big teeth.

Lupita and I couldn't help but notice quite a few visitors from our inland towns and cities appeared to be middle-class and above. Folks with the purchasing power we need. It's wonderful to see them here! Hopefully they'll patronize local shops and restaurants who have been sitting mostly empty for weeks and weeks, since the Easter vacation period, which wasn't very good for us this year.

The construction at the pier, el capricho de la reina, appears to be placing more boulders and enlarging the area where the fish gallows were. The captains say they're furious, but they're afraid to speak out. The rocks will affect the area including the currents, same as they did at La Ropa where there's no longer any sandy beach in front of Rossy's Restaurante, just rocks. And according to the murdered ecologist, Alex Serna, one of the various alleged irregularities of this project is that it allegedly has no environmental impact study, a requisite for such a project. Here's his video on the pier project.

Ocean swells are currently around 2 meters, but they're expected to dwindle to just over a meter by next Tuesday before growing to almost 3 meters by next Friday and Saturday, result of a passing storm out to sea. Surfer's rejoice!
