Another night of a failed forecast of rain. Monday night and early Tuesday huge storm clouds blew over, but no rain fell and Tuesday was just another lovely day, albeit hot and humid as is typical at this time of year. Rain is forecast again between this Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, but I ain't getting my hopes up. Oh, is that thunder I hear?

Waves continue to run between 2 and 3 meters high with massive amounts of water pushing them along. Good for surfers, but rough for swimmers. A U.S. tourist drowned today at Playa La Ropa even though black flags were flying. The pier at Playa Linda was again unusable this Tuesday due to the swells, but it's still scheduled to have millions more pesos wasted on it for another remodelación, possibly the fifth for that pier. A black hole into which our local politicians keep disappearing our money.

The picaditas and fresh jugo de naranja from Juguería Carmelo's, currently on the south side of the Mercado Municipal in the street, were absolutely delicious today as is everything we eat from there!

There's apparently a hill being built at the disastrous remodelación of the Zihuatanejo pier. Nothing that appeared on any diagram or scaled model shown to the public. It's so high now that you can't see the boats on the other side from the beach side, only the top of Cero El Almacén. From the pier you can no longer see the parking area. Cerro de Liz. El capricho de la reina.

The poor folks at the Mercado Municipal remain in the street with no date in sight for recovering the stalls they occupied for decades. The displaced businesses are working under extremely difficult circumstances, and when it rains they can't work at all, and they risk losing their merchandise and tools of their trade. The municipal government promised them a remodeled market in 2 months, 7 months ago. I think we all need to reconsider paying local taxes. We are NOT getting what we need as a community for the money being disppeared on projects involving cement.

The events planned for this summer period seem very poorly planned and disorganized. Too many events spread out between Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo. No one knows about them, so mostly only city workers and their families show up. The nautical decorations don't look like anything Mexican, much less from our local fleet of boats or local colors. A shame because it sure looks like a lot of money was spent on them, including two tall lighthouses beside the canal next to the museum, blocking what's left of one of our most iconic views. Of course they'll become dangerous flying objects with first windy storm that arrives. I can't imagine what the municipal government was thinking erecting such things there at this time of the year.
