Lluvias en la ZIHerra
La Canícula continues to punish the Costa Grande of Guerrero and Zihuatanejo in particular. Each morning and late afternoon we can see storms pass by that rained somewhere else. Tecpan and Petatlán to our south are enjoying plenty of rain. Daily we can see the storm clouds grow and explode to our southeast, teasing us, drifting close before dissipating. This Wednesday morning we could see a huge rainstorm to our north in the sierra. It was even possible to see rain in the part of the sierra visible to us. So close but so far. Just a tease. On the weather maps we watch as it looks like we're about to get a huge storm, then it parts and skirts around us, leaving us hot, humid and quickly drying out. It got up to 37°C in Zihuatanejo today. Even hotter in areas with lots of cement.
Still no lights on the pier at night. Hundreds of local people use the pier daily, and so far everything the municipal government has done with its totally unwanted so-called remodeling has simply been one insult after another for both local pier users and our visitors. The arrogance of this municipal government is truly astounding.
Still not much tourism around. Local beaches weren't very busy except in Ixtapa. There were a few boat charters, but most charter boats sat moored all day. There are just not enough visitors for the great majority of our tourism-oriented businesses, nowhere close to the "sustainable tourism" our local politicians boast that we have. And absolutely no one comes to see our painted cement.
Local surf looks good through the weekend. There's a half-decent chance of rain on Saturday.
Enjoy your pozole this jueves pozolero!
For an unforgettable and fun experience, I highly recommend a diving trip with my dear friend Thierry from Carlo Scuba based at Playa Las Gatas. Thierry is a 3rd generation local diver, and no one knows our local waters better than he does. He offers exciting guided tours of the best dive spots around as well as instruction and certification. Fully PADI qualified. (click to enlarge image)
