Last night we enjoyed another refreshing evening of perfect sleeping weather, and this Sunday a beautiful morning for doing chores and walking to the mercado for goodies. Hardly anyone around except locals, but somehow we manage to keep the market busy. It's the go-to place for so many things. Like most people, we have our favorite vendors, and they never let us down. And of course the best part is that it's an easy walk from our home.

Tormenta tropical "Rachel" has formed up and is expected to be affecting our coast in the coming days as it gains strength and becomes a hurricane. We're expecting rain this Sunday night as well as for the next several days as well as waves between 2.4 and 3 meters along the coast. The Capitanía has closed the port of Zihuatanejo to small vessels starting this Sunday evening until further notice, meaning panga fishermen won't be fishing outside of the bay for the next few days. I believe this measure is a little premature since no effects of the storm are expected tonight or tomorrow morning. So no water taxis to Isla Ixtapa from Playa Linda or to Playa Las Gatas from the pier. (click to enlarge the image)

Still no lights at the pier, and the most concerning is that the pier is already crumbling apart after less than 6 years since it was built. Doesn't speak well of the cement company at all. It's also in need of repairs, especially at the landings where the railings and the cement are broken. But I guess the plan was always to do a poor job so that it needs a complete rebuilding soon. Job security for politicians who own cement companies.
