Vientos FuertíZIHmos
Monday night the wind was gusting quite strong before finally letting up during the wee hours. Had us worried. It sprinkled in our part of town overnight. We eventually enjoyed the mild temperatures and the sound of the waves afterwards to sleep by. This Tuesday morning rain was visible on the horizon, and a rainbow appeared briefly to the west. We got our morning chores done without consequences. But then the wind started to get stronger and stronger until it reached 42 km/h, according to the folks who measure these things. It blew over one of the silly September decorations the municipal government placed in front of the beach at Plaza del Artista that was bolted to the ground. Made quite a loud sound, and we all jumped to see what had fallen. I expect the new trees at the pier didn't make it either, but the webcam was down, and I didn't feel like getting sandblasted to go look. Much of the beach ended up covering the beachfront walkway, the plazas and even the streets. The sweepers had worked hard the night before sweeping and shoveling the sand from the Paseo del Pescador, only to have it much worse today, so bad that they didn't even try to clean it up. Tropical Storm Rachel ended up affecting us much more than Hurricane Polo did, though Rachel remained farther off the coast.
While beaches are disappearing all up and down the coast of Mexico from the change in climate, Playa La Ropa is suffering the effects even worse because of the stupid Capricho del Rey road project that immediately started altering the beach and causing an accumulation of rocks in front of Rossy's and the adjacent restaurants. But in the past few days the problem has become so bad from the extreme tides and large waves that there is no beach left past the entrance to the estuary. It's totally full of rocks from well into the water up to the restaurants and the estuary, the worst I've ever seen it. So the restaurants are now losing clients. What's amazing is how many people try to claim it has nothing to do with the road project even though it was documented and predicted. Mostly people who seek favors from the municipal government and the folks responsible for this disastrous loss of beach who are repeating their mistakes on the downtown beach with the unwanted and unnecessary pier entrance project. They remind me of MAGAts defending their cult leader.
According to the forecast, we're expecting more rain this Wednesday than we've received so far, but the winds should die down considerably from what they've been these past couple of days.

Durante una breve pausa en el ventarrón de hoy, pudimos sacar esta foto de una decoración que fue tumbada aunque estaba atrancada al cemento frente a Plaza del Artista en Zihuatanejo.
