Thursday night was perfect sleeping weather with the sound of the waves and a slight breeze. Found myself under the sheets in the morning. But the sun came out, the temperature remained mild, and the entire day the sky was painted with dramatic clouds that promised more rain. Around midday there was a light rain, but I don't think it really bothered anyone. What few beachgoers there were didn't seem to care.

Mexico remembered the Masacre de Tlatelolco today. Always a somber day of sorrow and anger, and we vow never to let it happen again.

Today the mayor announced that construction of 1,000 or so more hotel rooms will be built in the coming year by different developers. Since we already can't fill the lodgings we have, this means disaster for existing lodgings. They will have to lower their prices or suffer more days with empty rooms, and everyone loses except the construction company. If Ixtapa's shopping area thinks sales are slow now, just wait. It can get worse, and this is how it's done.

It was announced today that the tall ship Cuauhtémoc will visit Zihuatanejo on Oct. 31 to commemorate the day in 1527 when the first expedition of Spanish ships set sail across the Pacific from Zihuatanejo to the Philippines. Here's a little background.

Don't miss the Eco-Tianguis "Sanka" that happens every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 1:40 p.m. in the small plaza in front of the Vicente Guerrero school, across the street from the Museo Arqueológico de la Costa Grande in downtown Zihuatanejo by the waterfront where La Boquita canal runs into the bay. If it looks like rain, then they'll set up in the Cancha Solidaridad two blocks to the east just off Paseo de La Boquita. Besides wonderful handcrafts, they feature a variety of homegrown produce, fresh foods including pastries, breads and tamales, fresh coffee, juices, and mezcal.

[image]Playa Blanca is a place that still enjoys much peace and tranquility, a place where the stars still shine clearly in the evening skies and where whales and dolphins can be seen spouting and breaching from the shore. El Manantial is an affordable vacation lodging located right on the beach at Playa Blanca offering two one-bedroom bungalows and two houses, one with three bedrooms and the other with six, each with A/C and wi-fi internet, and access to a common pool and a beachfront lounge area. Día de ReflexZIHón

Rob, please tell me the 1000 or so more hotel rooms was a typo? When you AI search how many rooms there are in Zihua it says there are about 6000 but that includes Ixtapa, and based on Las Brisas having just over 400 I’d venture a guess that Zihua itself currently has around 1000 total rooms. If correct, she’s basically on board with doubling the footprint which is completely insane. Where on earth are these developments going in, the hills above La Ropa which is overbuilt already? This is really sad news as this will change the wonderful vibe of Zihua and make it so that those of us who chose never to stay in Ixtapa for this very reason will soon need to look elsewhere for a slice of winter getaway heaven. On top of that you’ve mentioned the shortage of water there, how does she magically see this being resolved? But hey why worry about that when you get to supply more cement to these developers ???? from your family business.

Not a typo. Unadulterated greed. They couldn't care less about the problems their construction causes. Only the benefits to their bank accounts. It's all about their image in front of syncophants and people with little education who think that must be a good thing, same as with the silly pier business. According to local chisme, she wants to run for governor now. She'll need the money for her war chest to buy favors and votes, same as her husband will to run for reelection here. It's truly disgusting to think about the consequences of her stated ambitions.
