After a cool night with light intermittent rain, we awoke to partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures, but it was obvious that something had changed. The last storm of the year had passed. We'll be lucky if we see any more rain before next year's rainy season. Bummer.

But hey! Surf's up! And it looks good for the rest of the week with waves from a meter to a meter and a half at favorite local spots.

Local politicians were at the airport today scaring tourists arriving from Canada instead of helping them get through customs or carrying their luggage. Not sure why the local políticos think weary travelers want to pose for photos with them. Especially after they just went through the Aduana and got their luggage searched and items confiscated or taxed in Zihuatanejo's airport, which tends to treat some travelers very badly.

Saw a few more faces from up north while strolling downtown this evening, but not many. According to the local tourism office, the tourist season officially begins today. Yeah, sure. Looked just like any other day to me. ;-)

And the pier remains a muddy mess, still without any illumination at night. But the cement keeps getting poured! :-/

We're still expecting the tall ship Cuauhtémoc to arrive at noon on Oct. 31st. That's the ETA they reported earlier today.

We also awakened to a damp morning and said that unfortunately, the rainy season is over. It was decent.

The last two years we have had about 36 inches of rain, 90 cm. This year, 42 inches, 107 cm. Not the highest we have had since we have been here with our weather station, but respectable. These readings are near the dolphins on playa la ropa.

We have also been seeing foreign tourists over the last 10 days or so, in small numbers, but expect to see LOADS starting manana.

Please wave at the house with loud music coming out of it on la ropa.

Welcome back. Please be friendly!

Rob, WOW! That's what I call a panoramic photo.
Looks like nearly 180 degrees taken from the end of the pier? Very cool. Thanks.

I am begging to differ. If I had just landed in Zih, super excited to be here - even if I was tired, I would have loved to have the welcome at the airport. It would have added to the excitement and been so unexpected.
