Lots of thunder and lightning with a little rain here on la Ropa. Sure is refreshing and starting to come down harder as I type. Awesome lightning if not for anything else! Sure like the smell of it too!!

Pretty amazing display and torrential rain over here for the moment. Never saw come down like this before! Power cuts in and out like an impatient fat man waiting for ice-cream in a long lineup! Looks like it'll be green a while longer eh?

Las Cabanuelas

by Talley Ho @, Playa la Ropa, Thursday, January 16, 2014, 22:25 (4611 days ago) @ freddy

Las Cabañuelas refers to an ancient Spanish tradition of predicting the weather for the upcoming year according to the weather observed during the days of a month. In Mexico Las Cabañuelas is observed during January. The first 12 days represent the months of the year in order, the next 12 days represent the months in reverse, the next 6 days represent 2 successive months a day in order, and each 2 hours of the last day of January again represent the 12 months in order.

Thunder and light rain - but STRONG wind

by Semma4 @, Zihuatanejo, Friday, January 17, 2014, 14:35 (4610 days ago) @ Johnny Briefcase

Wind was apparently stronger than it seemed. The Hobie Cat 16, run by Miguel from the beach in front of the Viceroy, was flipped over during the storm and had its mast broken off and bent. He may be grateful for any spare parts anyone may have, as his other boat is in need of s/steel shrouds and cables.

On the south end of La Ropa, we got 2 inches of rain, in about an hour. The Viceroy lost at least one of their hanging bed structures, and the leaves off of several palapas. Yes, the upside down Hobie Cat. More than one massage tent was damaged or disappeared. The blue state of Guerrero shade structures next to La Perla had quite a bit of damage.
All in all, an interesting evening!

I have two ficus trees that are on my roofed area. One is over 6 feet tall and the other 7. They have really big pots. They were blown over as well as two other tall plants. Nothing broken or hurt so bad that a little trim won't make it look better in a couple of weeks. Sure did sound bad though.

Never heard anything so threatening in my life. We had a hit and it fried a bag of briquets. The bag was totally shredded. OMG. Thought is was the end.
