To borrow a phrase from talk radio, long time reader, first time boarder.
I thought the golfers here now, and arriving the next weeks may be interested to know that for the last five days the Palma Real golf course has gone through a major cleanup. Upwards of 200 workers. Everything that doesn't move has been painted, sometimes more than once. Tanker trucks of water applied to browned out fairways. Cart paths have been repaired, and swept. Bunkers manicured. Tons of organic matter have been removed and more palms planted to obscure less attractive views. If you have not played the course in some time, I would suggest that it is in the best condition that it has been in years. And, in keeping with the tenor or this boards editorial views--why all this activity, you might ask? Well, it is only a rumour, but word has it that The President will play the course this afternoon. I'll let you know if that turns out to be true.

Ah yes, because spending more money than they take in just to cover up the lack of maintenance is always good for business from politicians who live in bubbles!

But I agree with your logic entirely.
It's like so many things here. We can always tell when some bigwig politician is coming to town because the route he will drive will get painted and cleaned, the places he will visit get spruced up, and the folks who would normally protest get free handouts to keep them placated. But he'll never see or experience the real Zihuatanejo, the one without water, the one where the politicians siphon off and misspend so much of the public budget that every public work project is poorly done and things like beautiful new medical clinics will have no equipment or personnel, or highways will have no drainage or lighting. Same old same old. I keep saying we need to tar and feather some corrupt SOB to set an example, but perhaps locals will take heart from our neighbors in Michoacán who are doing what has to be done.

Yep, it is the same NOB. The hangars-on and ass kissers learn early never to take bad news to the Boss. And the Boss climbs the ladder by shooting the messenger.
All of our politicos live in a bubble protected from reality. I sometimes woner if the y ever read a newspaper, listen to a radio or watch TV--oh, I suppose they do but only the media the politicos want them to use.
