Whoever told you to eat what Franco at Otilla's tells you to was doing you a big disservice. The man is famous for the "no need for the menu trust me $100USD lunch."

You should always ask and know in advance what you are paying for.....Just ask for the menu.....Do you get in taxis in Zihua and not ask the cost?.....we have heard the stories but always ask for the price and a menu..... and have not been disappointed........Otillas is a must stop for us

Well thanks for the wisdom but we do not use taxi's as we own a car here and we do look at menu's. We are not one week wonders . We were visiting friends in on a cruise ship and Franco saw the opportunity to inflate the bill greatly thinking we were naive and in a hurry to return to the departing ship. Our friends were. We were not. Just because he did not do it to you does not mean it does not happen. Being here for many weeks, in and out, during all the seasons, we have ample opportunities to provide business to the many honest restaurants. Otilla's is not one of them. We have never had a problem on Ixtapa Island at Paradisio so we will send our dollars there. Actually, we have never had a similar ridiculous bill and charming tuned rude waiter ( when caught) anywhere else in Mexico, Europe or Asia. Your choice , your dollars, your experience may vary.

Franco is salesman and a good one. Our amazing day and lunch, whole red snapper, muchas piña coladas largas, a cigar, muchas cerveza, snorkel stuff, and a raft was $50.63 before tip. We were there from 9:30-4:00 and it was one of our favorite days.

You definitely did better than my sis and I. I think we each had the lobster tacos, a pina colada (my sis had one but not me) and a few beers, it came to over $80 usd. This has been a few years ago. Maybe he has wised up. BTW, I did find him very personable.

A couple of years ago my wife and I went to visit Otilios" and Franco. We had drinks and food and the bill was very high. If you go to Otilios', be sure to check you bill!! If you don't, you will have an expensive lunch.

Rob 'nRonnie - thanks for your work in putting this together. I've been cutting and pasting as I see recommended restaurants, their hours, favorite dishes, location, etc. So I'll have one document I can check while in Zi - in addition to Rob's list on this site.

Since its all ready being discussed...
Kind of funny, even our server on gatas, at another bar, told us about francos crooked tactics over the years. Doesn't shock me, and I personally am not a fan of servers who are too full of BS, and "salesmanship". Seems to have worked for him though.
