Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa Message Board - Ixtapa/Rumba Caliente

Years ago, my wife and I discovered, and fell in love with Ixtapa. Over the years we have stayed at the Radisson, Krystal, Tesoro, Dorado Pacifico, and more recently the Emporio; many of these hotels multiple times. We have truly enjoyed every vacation, that is until the last one, three years ago. At the Emporio, we were blasted out of our bed and our room in the early morning hours by the loud and obnoxious noise and pounding vibrations from Rumba Caliente. We really would like to return, but only if the irritating disturbances from Rumba, for the well being of all the surrounding hotel guests, have been controlled to a reasonably sensible level and duration. Would anyone familiar with the area, with an objective and unbiased opinion, tell me the current status of Rumba's impact and intensity of disturbance on the nearby hotels.

I second Keith recommendations as that bar isn't about to change and can be quite busy at times. Picking an hotel away from the noise is your best bet.

I was hoping someone visiting or residing in Ixtapa could inform him if the current noise code being enforced in Zihuatanejo is also being enforced in Ixtapa. If so then you would definitely notice the nights are quieter in Ixtapa, especially after 2:00 AM.

I see the Reglamentos folks have clamped down on the dozens of little businesses that used to spring up selling Valentine's paraphernalia along Benito Juarez, blocking the sidewalks and making walking almost impossible.

Thanks Keith and Rob. I'm somewhat disappointed as I was hoping for a more encouraging reply. My wife and I have always enjoyed being a part of the central Ixtapa environment, Dorado and Emporio in particular. Nice facilities. Easy access to the shops and restaurants, and to the bus for Zihua. Another visit is probably worth trying, but definitely with a confirmed room on the opposite side of whichever hotel from the Rumba. I'm also disappointed that apparently, as a group, the affected hotels, with FONATUR support, don't have enough muscle to exert more control over the situation. It would seem that their livelihood is at stake. Bill

We recently stayed 10 days at the emporio with our 2 young boys on the mountain view side and di not hear a peep!
