SAFE, SAFE, SAFE!

We have been in Zihua since Dec 11 and in Patzcuaro this week for 4 days (drove up and back via autopista/200.

We have gone anywhere and everywhere we wished.

AND LET ME EMPHASIZE, AT NO TIME HAVE WE FELT UNSAFE NOR HAVE WE SEEN SEVIDENCE OF VIOLENCE IN ANY FORM.

The people everywhere have been friendly, helpful and kind including coming forward to help when it was evident a couple of OFs were somewhat in need of assistance.

Perhaps you (and ourbrethern in Northern climes) should listen to us, people with first hand experience, instead of the talking heads in the media who scan the wires for something "exciting" to report.

Agree completely.

We just got back from a trip to the Monarch Butterfly Reserve. Stayed a night in Patzquaro, drove right through the heart of Morelia and then into the mountains of Michoacan. Got hopelessy lost trying to return through Ocampa until some friendly locals helped us out. Then back to Morelia with a night in the historical center. No problems, no threats.

A good thing that came from the (hopefully) PAST problems is that they are now closing off all the streets surrounding the Catherdral in Morelia during evenings. It is now a pedestrian only area at night. Very nice.

SAFE, SAFE, SAFE!

My wife and I have travelled in Mexico for fifteen years with no problems regarding safety. The only time was when we had a traffic accident and got ripped off by the insurance co. That is not Mexico's fault. We've enjoyed the many fiestas, cultural eventos, meeting the people, enjoying the sights, sounds and daily life of this great country. Not to mention the food and salsas from many different parts of the pais. We have lived in two other parts of Mexico, have become Inmagrados etc etc and have nothing but great things to say about our adopted country. Lately, however we have disregarded the less travelled roads in favor of the Autopistas because of the threat to everyone's safety. We have decided to trade in our much travelled vehicles in favor of a hammock and side order of margaritas on the Pacific coast. Zihuatanejo is one of our favorite places. We have been there and Ixtapa several times and will visit again twice more this year with the hope of finding our dream location.
I'm pleased you enjoyed your trip upland to Patzcuaro, Morelia and invirons. It too is my favorite inland site. One day we hope to meet you and others from this forum and share experiences from this Mexico.

This is my 5th year and I brought 3 grandchildren 4 and two 1 year olds and have never had any problems or felt threatened, but just to share when your walking with baby in stroller and a Seniora or Seniorita talk to your baby in Spanish and touch them know they mean well there is a wise tale here that if you see a baby you like and do not touch it the baby will get sick.
