We're thinking about living full-time in Zihua (have been here now for the last five months) and are wondering about living with the weather during the rainy season (from June through September, according to the weather charts). Are the rains heavy but sporadic, or is there a constant drizzle? Does the high humidity have a strong effect on how hot it feels (as opposed to how hot it is)? Are there any negatives that affect everyday life, such as insects, molds, etc.?
Would love to hear from folks who currently live here year-round, and thanks!

No two rainy seasons are the same. If you've never lived anywhere with a tropical hurricane season it's just one of those things you have to experience. Last year we were almost wiped out by Manuel. Then a month later came Raymond and stared us down for 3 days before blowing away. Things could've been much worse. But having lived in the tropics most of my life I love the rainy season, even if it does get the adrenaline rushing from time to time. An old Florida proverb goes: Ain't no reason with the hurricane season!

We have lived here for 6 years and we usually go away for part of the rainy season. Generally the first rain comes anywhere after the middle of May but can come quite a bit later. It tends to be very hot and humid until the rains begin. When the rain starts it is always in the middle of the night accompanied by spectacular thunder and lightning. It only rains every several days getting more frequent as the season progresses but seldom any rain during the day until September.
We have found that May and October are the most unbearable months to be here but we like the summers.

We have spent the past four years in Zihua during the summer/rainy season. It is a wonderful time of year for several reasons. Yes, it can be hot and humid, but can also be the coolest time of year during/after a big rain. The beaches are all but deserted, except during the mid-July to mid-August Mexican vacation time. It is especially nice if you can afford to get away to the mountains for a week or two, to cool down. Another plus -- Mangoes everywhere!!! Coming from Southeast Alaska, the rain does not bother us and the amount of rain is much less than we are accustomed to. The humidity when it doesn't rain is actually the hardest part. Takes some getting used to. Best if you can be near a pool or the beach.

You must experience it. I love that time of year regardless of the heat and humidity. I expect this year might just be really different considering how it has been so far this year.

We also love the rainy season. I always do my errands in the mornings and evenings, year round. During the heat of the day is for beach or pool time, hammock time, and reading or other quiet activity time. The heat and humidity do not bother us. We very rarely even turn on our air conditioning- just use ceiling fans.
Lady M is right- you must experience it for yourselves and see what your own opinions are, but remember what was also said- no 2 seasons are the same.
