Z Pier is CERRADO
Even before the recent 7.2 earthquake our municipal pier was on its last legs and destined to be torn down and replaced this year, but the quake certainly helped things along. Now it looks like the fishing tournament this coming weekend will not be able to use the pier, at least not safely. The quake caused cracks all over the pier and the partial collapse of a section of the pier near the beginning where the two wooden walkways had been erected several months ago. At first just the second half of the pier had been closed, but with the increased wave action this week from the mar de fondo effect further deterioration of the pier prompted authorities to close off the entire pier. 32 million pesos have been budgeted to rebuild the pier, so we hope to see construction on it begin soon. Meanwhile, this weekend should prove very interesting with all the boats and heavy drinking. We still don't know what "the plan" is, but perhaps the local government doesn't either.
If you look closely you can see the sunken section just left of the center straddled by the fence at the beginning of the pier.
