Just terrific! A tropical storm, a flood and a major quake the same day.
No damage to report here but we sure had the bejeezus scared out of us.

Well, the good side is we got THAT out of the way, so we shouldn't be expecting any big ones for a while, should we?
Now if I could just get the courage to go upstairs and finish dressing...

Whom I feel truly bad for are the folks in Tecpan who got the quake at the very moment the tropical storm was right on top of them doing its worst. If the church is still standing I expect it'll be doing a brisk business this Sunday.

I too hope that church and all the residents there are ok. Very interesting design. I did a quick google on it appears to be the last work (in Mexico) of designer Felix Candela. This internet thing is amazing!
are some quakes triggered by storms?

Is it possible that an intense low-pressure cell might be helping the fault let go? Was there a storm nearby on Good Friday also?
some would say...

Only according to superstition. Folks here claim they can tell it's going to quake from cloud patterns in the sky. Several folks said that yesterday they thought it was going to quake. So they were off by a day.

Folks in Mexico City say it felt stronger there than the last one.
If you're heading south to Acapulco beware there is a collapsed bridge in Tecpan and numerous rockslides along the coastal highway. The road is closed and there is no way to get between Acapulco and Zihuatanejo for the moment.

¡Temblor! - UPDATE ON COLLAPSED BRIDGE
by ZihuaRob
, Zihuatanejo, México, Friday, May 09, 2014, 11:48 (4495 days ago) @ ZihuaRob
An alternative access route has been opened in order to bypass the collapsed bridge in Tecpan and reopen the flow of traffic between Acapulco and Zihuatanejo along the coastal highway of Guerrero.
Also, rockslides along the coastal highway are being removed.
Please drive with care and patience.

Did it feel as intense as the one on good Friday?

Plenty bad. As intense? Well I guess everyone judges them differently.

From my perspective, nowhere near as intense. The one on Good Friday really shook me- for the rest of the day my insides felt like they had been shaken. And I actually SAW the building across the pool from me moving, and I SAW the roof tiles bump their way off the palapa and into the pool and onto the sidewalk. I thought it was strange that I didn't HEAR anything falling and breaking, including all the things within my condo that fell and broke-like glasses, ornaments, candle holders. I get the sound of the tremblor itself far outdid all the crashing THINGS. Some peoples' TV's (large flat screens) were thrown off the entertainment units...fridges fell over or made their way into living rooms. That was then. Yesterday, it felt like a gentle rocking- no shock to it. What worried me was that it seemed to go on for so long (about 35 seconds. Good Friday's one was 40 seconds). Normally our tremblors last about 3-7 seconds. Also, yesterday- nothing fell- nothing broke.
These were 2 totally different events. Both scary. As Lady M says- we have had enough.

When I tell people I usually hear a quake before I feel it, they don't know if I'm pulling their leg or not. But no one ever talks about the noise, usually just the shaking and visual effects.
