Someone asked me back in May or June what the weather would be like in July, and I said hot without much rain. In case you've ever wondered why that's so even in the middle of the rainy season, it's because of a meteorological phenomenon we affectionately call La Canícula (because there are a lot of less affectionate terms we use, too).

We've been having a heat wave here on Vancouver Island too! Some places even got over 30C

Nice, clear description of the seasonal heat w/o rain.
I also liked the ¿Por que canícula? explanation for the dog days effect from days of old being that the heat of the sun was increased due to the position of Sirius in the sky opposite the sun during this time of the year.
