Best arts and crafts
Currently looking around for the best arts and crafts around Zihau and Ixtapa. Anyone got any tips, must sees, etc?
As a side note, we have looked around the artisan markets and have seen some good items, but it's seems a little tough to find the treasures.

I really like the place just past Bandidos in Zihua. I believe it is called Arte Nativa. We've got a number of things from them. Nice people with good stuff.

There doesn't seem to be much in the way of arts and crafts being made in the Zihua area, but you might want to check the stores in the Marina building, which carry quite a variety of items made in Mexico. Also, Lupita's boutique carries some lovely ladies clothes.

We visit and like all three of the locales mentioned above. We have purchased items from each.
They are each quite different from the others, so you will get a good sampling of moderate to moderate-plus priced items in these shops. Lupita's has the best selection of fine regional clothing and jewelry among those mentioned.

Be sure to check out the 4 shops at the Casa Marina (right by the basketball court). They have gathered the best of the best from Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas, etc.

As far as the Artisan's market -- there is a lot of junk but also a few treasures to be found. It does take a lot of looking! There is one man who has a lot of incredible Huichol pieces.

You may be talking about the guy who does the beadwork masks etc. Amazing stuff. There are some real treasures in the indian market but also a ton of junk (a lot of which is probably from China), so it takes careful looking, but it is there. And if you can do a day trip trip or overnight, Patzcuaro and nearby pueblos have amazing stuff….masks, copper work, textiles, woodwork, ceramics, etc. etc. There's a lot more arts tradition there than in Zihua.

I love the small shop across the street from the Marina base that has artisanias from Olinala.
