Note to self: no swimming at El Manglar

I wouldn't read too much into that very unprofessional article. For starters, the photo they used is of a gator, not a croc. Then they state that only in Southern Florida do American crocs co-exist with gators, but I distinctly recall an American croc that resided in the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island (Florida's southwest coast) back in the late 70's when they were still quite rare. I was used to seeing gators, so I was quite surprised to see a saurian at a distance that had a different shape and color and different markings than the gators I was accustomed to seeing, and a local park ranger showed up while I was staring at it and confirmed that it was a rare American croc. That croc, a female, eventually died about a decade ago when a rare hard and prolonged cold snap hit the state including the Ft. Myers-Sanibel-Captiva area.

But no, good and wise people should not swim in estuaries that are habitats to saurians of any kind.
