New LED Streetlights in Zihuatanejo

The municipal government of Zihuatanejo is installing hundreds of new LED streetlights all over Zihuatanejo. These lights are of course made in China but supposedly come with a 10-year warranty, according to local officials. No idea what the city paid for them since transparency isn't one of their fortes and the information hasn't bee made public. Hopefully the saved money in energy bills will translate into benefits for the entire community.

Also of note is LED lights are out of the light spectrum for most bugs/insects. It will not attract them to anywhere near the same extent as gas/halogen/incandescent lighting.

Our new, highly energy-efficient house in Montana has all LEDs. They are much more efficient than incandescent, but they are also much more expensive. Time will tell how they will handle the salty air.

Our Ixtapa condo is Led, and our house here is six bulbs away!!!

Here on our Southern California beach, LED's hit quite a few years ago, and seem to hold up better than the traditional ones. Let's hope that's true in paradise!

China operates with the 50ies ethics of maximize profits at all costs and they are currently the biggest player on the scene. Now that the West is becoming aware to the error of its ways; we get to watch the much larger population of the East make the same mistakes. ... JB
