The church my wife's mother, Doña Rosa Farías, helped found and that I like to say is named after my wife Lupita had a birthday today. La Iglesia "Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe" celebrated 60 years since its formal dedication in 1954.
So if you saw the procession of folks marching and singing from the church downtown to the other church at Plaza Kioto holding the sacred image of Guadalupe, then that's what it was all about.

The Padre calls it the 60th anniversary, but historical documents I have access to say the first wedding ceremony was carried out in the still unfinished church between Felipe Torres Dorantes and Minerva Campos on December 14 in 1953, though it wasn't officially inaugurated until September 8th of 1954.
We always stop in when we we're in town. Such a pretty little church. Thank you for the pictures Rob.

Kathie always has to stop in to pray when we walk by when there is no service. She has been stopping by since 1999. The church is so pretty since they have repainted it- when we walk by and there is a wedding going it is a sight to see- thanks for the picture and history lesson. We really loved going to the little village churches between Patzquzro and Morelia. The tour is worth seeing all the little churches and how they are taken care of by the parishioners.

Any update on the church in Petatlan? After one of the recent quakes, there was supposedly cracks in the structure per the message board.

Any update on the church in Petatlan? After one of the recent quakes, there was supposedly cracks in the structure per the message board.
They should be pretty far along with the repairs of the two towers by now, but I don't know. I do know that the gazebo in the main plaza was also damaged severely and needs to be repaired or replaced, but that so far nothing has been done.
