Pet owners, wish us luck!

Some friends and I are having a meeting in an hour with the folks in City Hall responsible for banning pets on the beaches. I just wanted you to know that I will be speaking up for all of you foreigners who reside and visit here with your pets but who don't feel comfortable speaking out against bad policies by our government. I'll do my best to represent you and fight for you as well as for all of us, because I believe this is a policy that is not only bad for those of us who live here but I believe it is bad for our tourism.

I'll let you know how things turn out. Keep your fingers crossed and hope that reason prevails over special interests.

Take that attack dog with you to straighten out any those "responsible authorities" that get out of line!

Lizette Tapia of the municipal office of Ecología led a robust and very participative discussion by folks representing many different sectors of our community including several restaurant and hotel owners from both Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa as well as municipal representatives from different sectors of the administration including the Regidor de Turismo. Only one person spoke out in favor of banning dogs from the beaches. Everyone else spoke out against the current regulation, and so many folks spoke up in defense of our tourists and long-term visitors with pets that I really didn't have to say anything. But if you know me then you know that wasn't going to happen.

Lizette is going to contact us all for a follow-up meeting in order to decide on the wording for a proposal to modify the law.

Color me optimistic that we are going to get this fixed.

This is truly splendid news Rob. Even though I managed to get a service-dog permit for Emma I was constantly hassled by the uninformed beach inspectors.
They haven't been seen on La Ropa beach since the end of he school holidays and, I think, the local authorities haven't budgeted to pay them until further notice - but it would be a great relief to see this regulation exclude social, and properly cared for family pooches.
Your efforts are very much appreciated.

Actually I believe it was the director of the Eco-Guardians who was at the meeting yesterday saying what a splendid job he and his staff were doing and how polite they always were even though some of the people weren't always so polite to them. I let out a slightly stifled chortle at his comment.

Really? They were being polite when they threatened to confiscate our 8 lb chihuahua? I don't think so!

Thank you Rob for representing all of us! Including our four legged friends/family that we would never think of leaving behind. Also, please thank those business owners that supported our dogs being with us, and if you could indicate which businesses they represent, as I would like to be sure to give them a little extra business whenever possible! Those businesses that were not supportive, I would like to boycott.
Thanks and pleasa keep us posted...

All of the restaurants on La Ropa and Las Gattas are dog friendly EXCEPT La Perla. Most of the dog owners living near La Ropa boycott Francisco Ybarra's establishment already. His is the lone voice of dissent.

That has been my experience. I guess I wanted to know if the others are showing up at these meeting to verbalized support vs just allowing the dogs on their properties...

Thanx Rob, domesticated animals IE cat and dogs should be respected and treated accordingly. The owners are the responsible and its so simple how to handle it i find it hard to see why there is so much bureaucracy.
