Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa Message Board - Time from Morelia Airport to Bus Terminal?

It looks like I will have to fly to Morelia and bus on to Zihuatanejo because at this time the airfare is $500 USD cheaper that way($750 vs $1250). Out of Oklahoma City you can fly to Europe, Hawaii or Central America Thanksgiving week cheaper than to Zihuatanejo.
I need to know how much time I should allow to make it to the bus station from the Airport in Morelia. The flight would arrive about 1:40 and the bus leaves at 3. (Parhikuni) --Autovias website is junk and doesn't show me departure times. Could overnite in Morelia but would prefer to just do that on the way home. Any advice would be appreciated.

Per Autovias Website:

Morelia to Zihuatanejo. Depart Morelia 16.30, Arrive Zihuatanejo 21.00. Internet discount rate - $436.50.

Having tried to book via the Autovias website myself, unsuccessfully, I would take Rob's usual advice and go direct to the bus station and buy your ticket there. $485.00. You will find that you have the option of a number of bus lines.

Autovias website only gives schedules for dates in the next month so just match the day of week to get the schedule.

The Airport is outside of the city. Google maps says 25 min with no traffic, which based on our experience in early am is correct. Would expect longer on Saturday afternoon plus time to buy ticket for taxi in airport with possible line?

Also Sat afternoon may affect lines to buy tickets and availability at bus station?

We enjoy traveling by bus in Mexico. Be prepared to use only Spanish to buy tickets and get information both for bus and taxis. Much less English spoken in Morelia in general than in Zihuatanejo.

I'd have a backup plan (list of hotels or the address of the city tourist office near the cathedral) Particularly if you do not have phone or internet access once you arrive in Mexico.

If you are there Sat evening, there are sometimes special events in plaza next to the Cathedral.

To answer your question. It will take about 1 1/2 hours from the Morelia airport to the bus station.

I would like to thank everyone for their input, I will probably just overnite in Morelia Friday nite. This will be year 34 for me sometimes twice a year once in awhile 3 trips per year. Lost count a a few years ago.

We have a taxi/tour guide friend in Morelia that can pick you up at the airport and arrange a inexpensive hotel and take you to the bus station the next morning(we like the 7 am bus to "Z". We have flown into Morelia 2 times, the last time in January to go see the butterflies in the mountain- very well worth the extra day in Morelia. Our guide had found us a old and cheap hotel but after 2 nights had to move to another because they were closing- the 2nd was modern next to the viaduct that is famous in Morelia.
