Beginning January 1st, 2015 all calls made via fixed or mobile phones within Mexico are considered local calls and long distance charges will no longer be applied. This is the law. Long distance calls abroad obviously are not included or affected by Mexican law.

Not at all. This is one of the telecommunications reforms part of the Pacto por México set of reforms promoted by the administration of Presidente Enrique Peña Nieto. Its intent is to promote competition and to bring Carlos Slim down from his high horse.

If you have the second tier package, 599$ a month, International calls, cells calls and National calls are all now unlimited and free. Pretty damn cool!!
