Cubetazo shows up in advertising in Chicago. It's a new word for me. In context, I gather it refers to a bucket of beer. But I can find no translation of cubetazo.
Does it have a translation? Is this term used in Zihuatanejo?

"-azo" is most often an informal superlative suffix we sometimes add. I can think of no good translation. It's more of a feeling often related to something spectacular.
If we are talking about having a bucket of beer and we know it as a "cubeta de cerveza", then a "cubetazo" would be like a figurative smack in the head by a bucket of cerveza, a good feeling, a buzz.
In contrast, if we know that a bala is a bullet, then it follows that a balazo, best translated as a gunshot, is not such a good thing.
A flame is called a flama. A flamazo de gas is a gas flare-up, i.e. the fire produced by a gas leak.
A gol is a goal in soccer. A golazo would be a spectacular goal.
And of course you know the meaning of the onomatopoeic wham, right? So thanks to the osmosis of English in our Mexican culture (especially thanks to the folks living near the border) we often use the word whamazo to describe a spectacular smack, crash or punch.
That's about the closest I can get to a translation off the top of my head.

This screen cap from today's noon news shows where the question arose.
The price seems high (USD not pesos) for just a six pack, so we wonder how much beer this involves.

..and even a cubeta can be different things. Some places fill a bucket with 6 Coronitas, those little two-swig bottles called "1/4" on some menus, 1/4 being the Coronitas, 1/2 being a regular bottle....and even that can be confusing, especially since there are still some 325 ml bottles kicking around, long after Pacifico shook up the industry by going to 355 mls. If a regular beer is 1/2, then a "whole" must be a ballena or caguama.
There are still a few restaurants shamelessly charging premium prices for their beer, while serving the out-dated, smaller 325 ml bottles.
Aaah, beer - the reason I get up in the afternoon.

Thanks, Rob. As my husband, northbay, notes, your explanation makes sense in context..
My husband has sticker shock often, about many things. If you divide the price by six, it's not a huge bargain but it seems right for bar prices. In Chicago, even in La Villita.
