Does anyone happen to know the maximum amount you can deposit per month in a Mexican bank without being charged taxes on it? It used to be $20,000p, but it went up last year.

That law was repealed in 2004.

Thanks Jack but my Spanish isn't really good enough to completely understand. I see that the law on taxing deposits was repealed in 2014, but I was told at the bank there is still a maximum allowable deposit overwhich amount you will be charged taxes. Do you, or anyone, happen to know what that amount is?

In September 2014 it was the equivalent of $1500US. I have heard that this has been removed, but I don't know for sure....just heard through the grapevine, so it might not be accurate.

In January 2015 it was $1,500 USD. I haven't asked since. That was at Santander. As fast as stuff changes here.....who knows.

Why would you ever consider using a Mexican bank account such as Intercam? If you looked into their exchange rates going in and coming out you would discover they are a little south of the worst "casa de cambio!"

That might be the case for casual exchanges - but for Intercam/Interbanco clients the exchange rate is the best in town.

I agree. Their service has been better than just good for me over the years. Downright righteous. I wish I didn't have to use any other bank. Their customer service is simply the best! Certainly better than any other US or Mexican bank I've ever used.
