Happened to hit the United Web site at the right time. We booked our return flight on Feb 6, 2016 for 35,000 air miles plus $138 for 2- never know so got Insurance for $54.00. We had to use the insurance on a cruise once. Better safe than sorry. So our r/t was 75k air miles and $276 for taxes and charges for 2. The only thing is we have to drive to Chicago.

The Insurance was through the United web site- Allianz Travel Insurance.
Years ago I had to see a doctor on the cruise ship we were on and they picked up the charge because our insurance did not cover outside the US- I thank the short office visit was over $300. Now with layovers all the time and health issues, never can tell when one will need insurance.

We use Allianz Travel Insurance on almost all our trips.

Have either of you ever had to use their service?

We have house, car, medical and travel insurance and almost never ever have to use any of them. We would not think of being without any of them.

We typically use the insurance that the airline offers when we buy our tickets. We have filed three times for smaller amounts and generally been pleased.
That being said, check every time to see about the fine print on the police - what is covered and what is not. It can vary. If you are concerned about pre-existing conditions, coverage of illness of a family member not traveling with you or other emergency situations, be sure you read definitions and scope of coverage.
If it works for you, the airline policies (or package coverage from a tour agent) are usually a very good bargain. Just read the policy before you pay the money.

My travel companion and I always buy the insurance offered at the time of flight booking - it's usually through Allianz. If you are booking through different airlines for departure and return, you can buy only once and easily adjust the amount of coverage later on to include your total airfare as well as non-refundable deposits. My companion recently saw a doctor in Jamaica for kidney stones. The cost was low (actually lower than the deductible) but they paid his claim anyway. I mostly buy it in case I need to alter or cancel plans due to family illness; he buys it for medical evacuation coverage since his health insurance doesn't cover it.

We buy travel insurance mostly for possible medevac transportation back to the States. Fortunately, we've never had to use it. I was curious if anybody has had experience (good or bad) with any of the providers.

As I said in my earlier post I had to use the insurance on a cruise ship for seeing a doctor since our regular insurance would not cover anything outside of the USA. We just had to send them the rejection by our insurance company and the bill we paid to the cruise ship for seeing the doctor a whole 5 minutes.

My question referred to any experiences folks might have had with service from travel insurance companies related to medevac flights.
