MUCHO OJO - VIENE UN HURACÁN

In case you haven't noticed, a tropical depression south of Acapulco is expected to become a hurricane before reaching the coast. It is heading directly for the coast of Guerrero and so far it is predicted to pass directly in front of Zihuatanejo. Prepare yourself and please stay alert and informed.

We are new here....So, what do you if a hurricane does actually hit Zihua. Are there any designated areas that we should evacuate to, etc.?

Thanks

La Ropa

Stock up with candles, batteries, water and non-perishables. Charge whatever needs charging, move plants and outdoor furniture close to the walls where they will withstand any winds a little better, keep towels and buckets/bowls handy for leaks. You're not going to evacuate anywhere from La Ropa, especially with the road construction. The worst thing to do during a hurricane or heavy rainstorm is to try to drive somewhere. You'll be fine. The hills around our bay do a magnificent job of sheltering us from the worst of any storms, and we aren't expecting a direct hit.

I hope you have a portable radio and that you speak enough Spanish to be able to follow the news and any important instructions that may be broadcast.

Painfully slow. Not even half done. I imagine it will still be under construction by the end of this year the way things are going. Everyone at La Ropa is furious, but now the state government says they aren't responsible for the construction but rather it's the federal government. A huge mess, and local hotel and restaurant owners are looking for someone to sue for their losses. I tried to warn all my friends and lots of business owners out there before the construction even began that they shouldn't allow it, but does anyone ever listen to me? Nooooooo! That's why my nickname is "Te Lo Dije".

I think whoever is responsible for the pace of construction of the road is trying to get into the Guiness book of records for the longest time to complete something. They are even cutting corners and using plastic manhole covers which I have seen 2 of them all ready broken and off the manhole. Must have been a pretty good payoff to someone. If the city only had a small maintenence crew out fixing the potholes, I´m sure the La Ropa road didn´t have to be totally rebuilt, but then there is no room for fat overpriced contracts if they did proper maintenance which I´m sure would have been more beneficial to the tax payers and the businesses so badly affected

The candles that are the handiest are actually the ones that come in a glass like we use on the gravesites and altars for Dia de Muertos so that the glass shields them from the wind especially as you walk around with one in your hand. Of course a hurricane lantern is the best.
