There are ruins near Petatlán called "La Soledad de Maciel" or more affectionately by locals "La Chole". You will have to hire a guide to take you there.
The main concern here and the reason why I don't encourage the exploitation of this archaeological site for tourism is that it has not been properly studied or excavated by any of our archaeologists and is not protected against looters. The result is that many people either take things they find there or buy them from locals. I strongly urge anyone who goes there NOT to buy ANY artifacts so that you don't create a market for this type of activity. Besides the fact that it is illegal, which doesn't stop most people, it is a moral crime against our Mexican heritage.
It is sufficient that we exploit our area for the sake of tourism. Please don't abuse the privilege and we will continue to genuinely welcome all visitors here.
