No way. Zihua and Mexico in general are dramatically
safer than any USA major city during daylight hours.
The key to understanding Mexico is that that love family,
esp. children. They love life. The book Distant Neighbors
by Alan Riding should be required reading as preparation for
visiting Mexico. I have travelled throughout Mexico extensively
since 1973, love Zihua and Ixtapa, and say have a great time.
One places themselves in potential risk situations
going to high profile night spots late at night, coupled
with drinking (drugs????), coupled with not knowing Spanish (saying
words like "cerveza" don't really impress anyone)
amd coupled with our characteristic "demanding"
attitude. Throw your watch away when you arrive,
if you don't speak Spanish fairly well, use
English-speak slowly, shake hands, smile, talk with people about
about their family and yours - you will be rewarded with
a memory of a lifetime. I have never understood how
we can visit a foreign country and demand that
the country is supposed to be like ours-duhhh.
