I spent a week at the Hotel Irma at the beginning of June and
would just like to share some of my experiences.
First, the staff at the hotel really made the stay much more
enjoyable. When we first arrived, the bellhop started to lead
us up several flights of stairs. So we stopped him and said
that was going to be too much climbing. He said no problem,
went back to the front desk while we waited for two minutes
and returned with a key for a newly remodeled room on a low floor.
Later Senor Garcia stopped by to see if we were happy with the
Also, Osvaldo and Luis in the dining room went beyond good service in a way
that can only happen if you genuinely care about people. Senor Garcia
would also stop us every day and asked if he could help in any way and
made sure we were happy. We never expected that kind of personal
I was traveling with my 74 year old mother and never felt uneasy
or had the least concern for our safety. At sunset every night
the front gate is secured and an armed guard is posted. We would
also see the guard with flash light patrolling the grounds.
One night we returned to the hotel and the hallway lights had not
been turned on, but the guard led us up the stairs with flashlight
and turned on the lights for us.
There is a spectacular view of the bay and mountains from the hotel
terrace and each room had a balcony with that view. Our room was
air conditioned and had cable tv, but no english channels. There is
a taxi station on the road above the hotel, so anytime we wanted to
go out, the desk clerk would phone and in just a minute the cab was
at the front gate.
I will be watching the specials to Zihua, because I would love to go
back and see our friends at the Irma.
