City Folk and Mother Nature
A few years ago, I did the same with a tiny turtle hatchling. A few seconds after releasing it, a frigate bird swooped down and scooped it up. Life is hard.....
We city folk have this Disneyfied view of Mother Nature as a benevolent giver of life. The reality is that Mother Nature is a neglectful and sometimes abusive parent who doesn’t care if any individual lives or dies.
Yeah, so much literature comes to mind here. Jack London, or Stephen Crane's "The Open Boat," or Hemingway's outdoorsy stuff, or Marlin Perkins (ha). Survival of the fittest.
