The noise Friday night wasn't too bad. We managed to get to sleep at a normal time. And Saturday morning wasn't as cool as previous days. The ocean was also still calm. Good thing, because the town filled up quickly with visitors.

Buses were parking again in the empty field across the canal from Plaza Kioto. There must've been about 300 people in staggered groups walking towards town with their suitcases, bags and coolers, many still wearing cold-weather clothes. Looking forward to a day at Playa Las Gatas.

Unfortunately, when they returned from Playa Las Gatas they had to maneuver all their children, elderly and the gear they were hauling along the decrepit, unlit, broken, and urine-smelling sidewalk that goes behind the Capitanía because of another GuitarFest event. Lupita took a moment to speak to a couple of navy personnel about the indignation of forcing people to use that dangerous and unsightly walkway, and they said they were just thinking the same thing. None of us could understand why it didn't occur to the event organizers to leave a passageway along one side of the event for the pier workers and visitors to get back and forth like was done for the last SailFest event. There was hardly even an audience, mostly just empty plastic chairs, so that only added to the indignation.

Oddly, there were no events at the Cancha Municipal tonight. Lots of folks were milling about like they expected something in celebration of the Carnaval, but other than the bandas norteñas playing at Las Salinas, it didn't seem like anything else was available for our visitors. Certainly nothing with tropical music. Bummer.

The Carnaval parade is scheduled to begin at 7PM this Sunday at Plaza Kioto. It will follow Avenida La Boquita towards the museum and past the Cancha Municipal. At Cinco de Mayo it will turn and go towards Las Salinas where the musical groups are playing. Entry is free. See the details on my Community Notices & Events page.

The surf was still mostly mild and easy for swimmers this Saturday, but it's expected to pick up this evening, and on Sunday waves will likely be over 2 meters growing to over 3 meters before the day's end, continuing over 3.5 for much of Monday and into Tuesday.

[image]For traditional lodging with a distinct flavor of old Zihuatanejo, I highly recommend Bungalows Pacíficos. Comfortable, quiet and with a wonderful view, this small iconic Zihuatanejo bayfront vacation lodging is located in La Madera and features 6 suites and a small house, all with one bedroom with a king-size bed, air conditioning, kitchen, and terrace. The suites also have two single beds, and the small house has a twin-size bed for family or friends. They have direct access to the waterfront and are within easy walking distance of many excellent restaurants as well as downtown.
