There was just a meeting at the ayuntamiento about public transportation problems such as this. I'm real sorry to hear that you backed down and let the monopoly once again get away with ripping off people who don't want to use their services. I can only guess you're an easy mark at poker, too. ;-)

The consumer ALWAYS has a choice!

How do you think airport employees get to and from the airport? They take taxis and buses. Unfortunately, there is a mindset among taxi unions and street beggars that tourists and visitors from the USA & Canada are rich and so it's okay to prey upon them.

I will continue to recommend that folks who don't want to pay the excessive monopoly rates simply walk off the airport property where the monopoly certainly has no authority to tell folks that they must use their service.
