Beach Patrol/Dog Cops
Yesterday, after being here for 2 months exactly, we finally had a doggie cop arrive early, and we were a bit later, and we were talked to. We were out in the water swimming with our beasts when he arrived on the combi. He whistled and waved his arms while we finished our swim. The four of us came in, he asked if we spoke Spanish, we said we did not. He said, very clearly, "No mascotas aqui." Then he turned around and walked away. We both said, "Thank You," with a question in our voices.
In the afternoon, while sitting in our chairs under an umbrella people watching, we observed him in action. It was fascinating. He tried to prevent a man with his family from entering the beach because the man had a beer bottle in his hand. They finally just kept walking. Shortly after that, a man walked right past him with a full case of Coronas, and was ignored. A bit later, a family was walking off of the beach, the man had a foam ice chest on his shoulder, and a clear plastic bag of trash in his hand. He was stopped and told he could not have plastic bags on the beach!!!
Then our neighbor came out, talked to the doggie cop for a bit, came out and sat with us, with the dog. Nothing was said. He went home, switched dogs, and joined us again. Again nothing was said.
So, the thing we have been avoiding at great lengths turned out to be not that bad, but we will be off the beach by 7:30, not 8am, to avoid the hassle.
It's interesting to see that there is at least a token attempt being made to enforce the other rules, even though not correctly.
