No problems with our rooftop plants this morning, nothing broken or blown away, though someone lost their tinaco on Cuauhtémoc street where it was sitting this morning. It stopped raining overnight, which allowed us to open all the windows and enjoy sleeping to the cool fresh air, but this Tuesday it's raining again, pretty hard at the moment. The gobernadora did good by closing all the schools. It would be difficult for kids in rural areas, and no one needs to be out'n'about in this weather if it isn't absolutely necessary.

The tropical depression I mentioned yesterday has become Huracán John, currently a Cat. 2, expected to make Cat. 3 before it makes landfall near the border of Oaxaca and Guerrero. The folks along the Costa Chica of Guerrero are in for a rough ride with torrential rains, high seas and high winds. Our hearts are with them. Schools are closed in Guerrero and Oaxaca this Monday and Tuesday.

Did that little storm that just blew through get everyone's attention? I don't think I've seen that much lightning since I lived in Florida. Something is wrong with the weather. The rain was blowing sideways so hard it came in through the TOP of our rooftop door that has a screen door in front of it and a roof protecting it. Haven't seen anything like that since Huracán Rick a few years back. It also came in through our bayfront windows a little bit even though they are extremely well made. Just little trickles in the corners from the blasting wind and driving rain. No harm done, but a testament to the strength of the storm. Thank goodness the storm didn't continue or we would've had a severe flooding problem downtown, but it let up just in the nick of time. For the moment there's no traffic, so I'm assuming there is some flooding along Cinco de Mayo, Avenida Morelos and La Boquita. Hope our rooftop plants made it okay. I had to stuff plastic bags around the bottom of the rooftop door to keep the water out, so I'll check on them in the morning after the rain stops completely.

Before the big storm hit, there had been some rain but it was mostly just a drizzle, and I saw pangas rushing from Las Gatas to the pier trying to get visitors and workers back to town. The port was declared closed around 7:00 P.M. I suspect not everyone made it to the pier in time before the big storm arrived, and it arrived quickly without much warning. Hope everyone is okay. It looks like we're going to have some rainy weather for the next several days.

But it's still a wonderful time to be in Zihuatanejo. Many vacation rentals currently have low rates and availability.

Centrally located and very affordable, Condo Serenidad #2 is a 1-bedroom condo overlooking Playa La Madera in Zihuatanejo that offers many comforts to make you feel at home on your vacation. It enjoys an extremely lovely view of the beach and bay, and with the large picture window open, it has a very open-air feel and receives refreshing breezes through the palm trees in front. This vacation rental condo has a full kitchen, Wi-fi, A/C, and cable TV as well as a pool on the property and 24-hour security. Easy walking distance to many restaurants as well as downtown shopping.
