I don’t agree with the blue flag program either. This seems to me to be a puff piece. With all of the open burning, occasionally littered beaches and, as I understand it, a sewage treatment plant that is pretty much at capacity, I’ve never thought of Zihuatanejo as the environmental paradise the article implies.
Mind you there are plenty of places in the USA that are much worse than Zihuatanejo, but the article is far from an objective view,of the area.

A sobering thought is that Zihuatanejo proper (not the entire municipio) is one of the few towns on the entire Costa Grande that even has a working wastewater treatment plant. Most communities don't. And the population keeps increasing and the builders keep building. :-o
