I've read A Massacre in Mexico, which provided a lot of the narrative regarding the coverup by the Mexican government including torture of many innocent people to coerce confessions from them. A theory put forward in that book was that while the students had previously commandeered buses to attend marches in Mexico City, in this case they got a bus with compartments full of heroin.
