Bringing My Dog Back to Mexico

by Mag B, Friday, September 15, 2023, 19:47 (17 days ago) @ Little Guy

Our dog will enter Mexico through MEX for the fourth time in November.
Preparation :
He just got his rabbies shot last week. It is valid 3 years, it was expired. I have a new vaccination certificate with Recall dates up to date. I thought it has to be done at least one month prior travel. Don’t forget you will need the vaccination certificate to show at custom when you come back in Canada too.
He will have another apointment a few days before the flight to get his health certificate. Usually the vet fills this official canadian Health Certificate. I will have 2 or 3 copies of those two documents in a file with originals).
Travel day :
At the airport in Canada, Aeromexico workers will need to see those papers and we will have to fill a discharge form. Don’t believe them if they say your dog will transit like a regular luggage in MEX (if like us he travels in a kennel in cargo). That is not accurate.
In MEX, after we find our dog near the luggages, we go to the animal control office (same room than luggage claim in terminal 2). Sometimes they will check the dog, sometimes they won’t. They will emit another paper needed to leave this room. Then we have to go to Aeromexico counter outside the secured area, to check in our dog for the next flight.

We had the same experience in November 2020, 2021 and 2022.
