Bringing My Dog Back to Mexico

We will be flying next month with our 15 pound dog in the cabin with us through MC for the 5th time. As others have advised, follow the rules of the airline. It's AeroMexico's plane, their rules and we've never had a problem as long as we comply with their requirements. Please also notify AeroMexico ahead of time that you are bringing your buddy with you.

After you go through Immigration and Customs, there is an animal control office (SENASICA OISA) where you will present yourself with your dog. You will fill out a form, then give the agent the Certificate of Good Health from your vet. Make sure the address where you're staying in Mexico is complete, including postal code. It takes about 15 minutes for the agent to enter the info into the system and hand you the official Certificado Zoosanitorio Para Importación.

From AeroMexico's website:

"Requirements for animal transportation within Mexican territory:
An essential requirement for dogs and cats to be admitted for a flight within Mexico is that they must be at least 8 weeks old.

Vaccination record: up-to-date rabies vaccine, indicating date of application, period covered by vaccine, and product information (pets under 3 months of age are exempt from this requirement)

Certificate of Good Health, one original and one copy (valid for 5 days from date of issuance). Certificate must be extended by a veterinary physician on letterhead paper printed with the veterinary physician's professional ID number and contain the following data: owner's name and address. Animal's breed, sex, age, and color. Departure and destination address."

This is a step-by-step guide for navigating Mexico City airport with your dog.
