Have used both for German - my wife is currently using Duolingo for Spanish

Ich habe alles mein Deutschesprachen vergessen. Pero me encanta hablar espanol en Mexico!

Du hast dein Deutsch vergessen. Ich auch. Ich lebe seit 64 Jahren in den Vereinigten Staten. Mein Englisch ist viel besser.

That is what I loved about studying German a million years ago. I was so easy to read. But it was impossible to speak and understand the vocalizations. You are hearing all the nouns and prepositional phrases but the verb doesn't come until the end of the sentence so you don't know what is happening. By the time you get to the verb, you forgot all the objects.

When and if you next listen to Yoda in Star Wars, you can tell his native language was similar to German. He always puts the verbs at the end of his sentences.

I wish I would have studied Spanish in school. No matter. Por fin, ahora puedo hablar espanol muy bien ... como un pato!
