Consequences of Feb 1 Tariffs?

When your adversary is digging a hole for himself, step aside and let him keep digging.

The only fly in the ointment here is that this particular adversary might very well have you and much of the rest of the world fall down into the hole of his making. Everyone loses in a global trade war. Let's see, the last time this happened was in the 1930's which also saw the rise of authoritarianism, bellicosity, and Nazi salutes, however coyly done in order to allow for someone to claim that it really wasn't a Nazi salute. Sound familiar?

I agree that everyone loses in a trade war. In my view, however, a quick demonstration of the repercussions to the trade war instigator is preferable to a global tyrant using the threat of a trade war to force other sovereign nations to his will.
